April 1st 2008
I know I am a little behind at this thing so I will get everyone up to date. I can't believe I am posting this picture of us on here but it captures the moment before we met our daughter for the very first time. I hope that I will be able to remember every second of this day forever. Anyway the day started off with an ultrasound at the docter's to check on how Callie was growing. Well as it turned out she was still a little behind on the growth chart so they decided to go ahead and schedual my c-section for that same day. I was so excited and could't wait to call Ryan and tell him that today was the big day!!!!! I went to pick up Collin at school and when we got out to the car I said that I had a surprise for him and told him that his sister was coming today. He looked up at me and said "is that my surprise"???? He seemed a little disappointed to tell you the truth! Ryan and I got to the hospital around 2:00pm and we got all settled into our room and had to wait till 5:00pm before they came into the room to get me. I think that was when it actually hit me that I was going to see my baby's face for the first time. As I was getting my spinal I could see Ryan pacing in the hallway and glancing my direction every couple of seconds. I couldn't wait for him to be by my side so he could hold my hand and give me his reassuring look that he is so good at. Once he was by my side and he grabbed ahold of my hand I could feel the tears start to roll down my cheek. I looked over at him and he had tears in his eyes, which only made me cry more. He kept asking me if I was ok and I said yes, even though I had so many emotions running through me. I asked my docter if she had started and she said that they were almost to Callie. It was at that moment that I prayed to God that she would be ok. About 1 minute later my docter asked how big Collin was when he was born and I said he was 5/13 she said that Callie looked about the same and it was about 5 seconds after that I her my daughted cry for the first time!!!! What a relief for any mother. The first words out of my mouth were "is she alright"??? My docter reassured me and said she looked great!! Oh I forgot the part where they asked Ryan to stand up and see her being born and if you know my husband you know about his week stomach. So she was finally out and we couldn't wait to meet her. Once she was cleaned up the nurse brought her over to us and all I could think of was I was the luckiest wouman in the entire world. How perfect she was. I couldn't take my eyes off her and didn't want to part with her when she was taken to the nursery. Ryan went with her to make sure she was ok as I was off to the recovery room. I later woke up to the sound of a bassinet being wheeled into my room and Ryan's voice saying "Callie is here". She was laid on my chest and she started to nurse right away. That was our first bonding moment as mother and daughter. Later that night after I was taken to my room I waited for Callie to be released from the nursery since she was "grunting" a little. They just wanted to make sure that she was able to clear her lungs. This is a pretty common thing with c-section babies since they aren't squeezed out the other way. Collin was able to come in and see me and the first thing he said was "Callie is not in your tummy anymore"! I was so happy to see him and and the smile on his face at becoming a big brother. He was so proud!!!! While it was time for everone to leave for the night Callie remained in the nursery. With a long day almost behind us and the docter's reassurance Ryan went home for a much needed good night sleep. After an hour or so I had just fallen asleep when my door opened and it was my little girl and she was hungry!!!! The first thing I did was call Ryan so he would be able to stop worring and get a good nights rest. Then we laid quietly in bed just getting to know eachother. The nurse came in after a while and asked me if I wanted her to go to the nursery so I could sleep and I told her that I was fine and Callie was with me almost every second until we left the hospital two days later. I couldn't have asked for a better experience since I did't have that time with Collin.Posted by Creating Memories at 2:34 PM 1 comments
